Gold and diamonds were not on the radar of 19-year-old Ipswich native Ashley Portas; however, after taking over a courier run for diamond merchants in Brisbane CBD, he was thrown into the fascinating world of gemstones.
Many of Ashley’s clients were the biggest and best Australian-owned diamond wholesalers, gem merchants, gold suppliers, and jewellery manufacturers.
After many years, Ashley became a trusted ally to many of his clients, and one of his clients offered him the opportunity to learn the diamond trade. Starting at the bottom, Ashley learnt the Diamond business from the ground up at one of Brisbane’s best Diamond merchant companies.
Fast-forward to 2010, and many would go on to become his major suppliers at Diamondport as he pursued his dream to start his own business and create a successful and trusted Jeweller that creates bespoke engagement rings, wedding rings, and jewellery.
