The modern brilliant cut diamond with 57 facets (58 with a culet) that we know today came to fruition in 1919, with changes taking place as technology continued to develop in the first half of the 1900s. A round brilliant cut diamond is a testament to the time and expertise that goes into designing a diamond with the perfect amount of sparkle- no other cut can compete.

Does a round brilliant diamond look bigger than other shaped diamonds of the same carat?

The depth of a round brilliant cut diamond really denotes whether it has a large ‘spread’ (i.e., its perceived size for its carat weight when viewed from the top). A shallower diamond may have a bigger spread, but light return may be poor, as the angles might not be correct to bounce light back to the eye. It’s important to ensure your engagement ring setting is sitting off the band if you wish to fit a straight wedding band flush against your ring in future. The key is to have your wedding ring design complement your engagement ring, not compete with it.

Round brilliant cut diamonds look great in all precious metal types. It’s important to choose a colour that you love, but also one that complements the diamond’s colour. The colour of a round brilliant cut diamond is often rated using the GIA colour scale, which ranges from D (colourless) to Z. Most diamonds seen in engagement rings range from D to J, with J stones having a more yellow or brown tinge. This is the first time I've ever reviewed anything, but for the first time I feel I must share my absolute delight with my experience with Ash from Diamondport in Brisbane. I would say that I wasn't your ordinary guy with no idea about diamonds and about rings. I had knowledge of retailers, wholesalers, designers, diamonds etc. Through my homework, let's just say I knew what I was after. I went everywhere, from wholesalers in Melbourne, to Tiffany stores on the Gold Coast. I knew the design I was after and felt I had found it with 'another jeweller' in Brisbane. About to almost get things going with them a good friend of mine referred me to go see Ash at Diamondport before I went ahead with the other place... I contacted Ash and was very transparent with what I was after and what I was about to do, he assured me seeing him was not going to disappoint, and my god it didn't!! It was meant to be. The moment I met Ash and began dealing with him, it was evident his passion for diamonds and customer service was more genuine than anywhere I had previously been. (Including Tiffany) but what I was after was not something off the shelf. I was very particular in how i wanted the diamond, including its size, cut colour clarity it's setting, and a few other small but important details. I don't know anyone else that would have gone to as much effort as Ash did to get the engagement ring as perfect as I pictured it. But what was most impressive was the trust I immediately gave Ash in sourcing the diamond. The time he put in to find what I was after was well worth it, and because of the trust he earnt from me, I purchased the diamond without seeing it. This was based purely on his word that it would be perfect for me. I went ahead and a few days later the diamond arrived. An exceptional 1.56ct round brilliant cut masterpiece. I was overwhelmed in how the diamond looked, and to be honest it was better than expected. From here I had already received multiple 'design drawings' from Ash in how it would look when made. (Oh yes, I forgot to mention this ring was a full custom design) I went back and forth a couple times in making minor changes, and everytime I did Ash was more than accomodating as he too wanted to get it perfect. My final drawing came through and there it was - perfection. I gave Ash the go ahead and the making of the ring commenced. A diamond I hadn't seen, a ring and setting I only saw via a computer drawing, that was the trust I gave Ash. So you could say the next week or so while it was being made, I was very anxious in how it was going to look. Would it look as good as the drawings..? Well.... I got the call from Ash. It was ready. I went in to pick up the ring and was so nervous with butterflies, I almost couldn't open the box. Ash opened it for me and I was absolutely blown away. Lost for words I was actually rather emotional about how it looked. It was amazing. Far far exceeded my expectations and to see it in real life was beyond any of the drawings of it. The engagement ring was the most beautiful I had seen (and I'm the guy!!) I was simply delighted and could not wait to propose to my girlfriend. I won't go into the details of my proposal other than it was perfect. She was so overwhelmed and emotional on how beautiful her engagement ring is. In her words too - it is perfection. And she said she could not have dreamed a more beautiful and perfect ring. We have been engaged for 2 weeks now and everywhere we go, people comment on her engagement ring, she loves it, and i do too. The service Ash provided from the moment I first met him, to after my proposal is second to none.
