Ashley founded Diamondport with a clear vision: to craft Brisbane’s finest engagement rings. His journey began as a diamond merchant, traveling the world to source and understand what makes a diamond truly exceptional. In 2019, he took things further by bringing jewellery manufacturing in-house, investing in state-of-the-art technology and world-class training to ensure every piece meets the highest standards of craftsmanship.
Today, Diamondport is one of Queensland’s highest-rated jewellers, renowned for its exceptional quality and unforgettable client experiences. Ashley takes pride in personally connecting with clients, knowing that every ring tells a unique love story. From sourcing the perfect diamond to crafting timeless designs, he and his team set the benchmark for brilliance.
Karis began her journey in jewellery on her 19th birthday in 2019, becoming Diamondport’s very first apprentice. She became trade qualified in 2022 and has completed diamond setting courses in both 2021 and 2024. With a Diploma of Visual Arts and a Cert. III in Jewellery Manufacture, Karis is now our Production Manager and Jeweller. She handles everything from consultations and designing to CAD, making, repairing, stone setting, and quality control.
Her favourite gemstone? Diamonds—because they’re the hardest known mineral, making them a dream to work with. They resist scratches, withstand heat, and display incredible refraction, plus they come in a full rainbow of colours!
Originally from Canada, Ruthie studied Architectural Technology before making the move to Australia in 2020. On a whim, she applied for a role at Diamondport in 2022—and hasn’t looked back since! As our CAD designer and in-house photographer, she brings creativity and precision to both jewellery design and social media. Ruthie loves the blend of technical detail and artistic expression that comes with creating engagement rings. Her favourite gemstone? A marquise-cut diamond—timeless, elegant, and full of brilliance!
Emily has been part of the Diamondport team since 2018, handling everything from accounts and payroll to office management and client appointments. With a GIA Jewelry Essentials certification and a background in Public Health, she keeps things running smoothly behind the scenes. Her favorite part of the job? Seeing the joy on clients’ faces when they receive their jewellery and hearing all the creative proposal stories—especially the ones that truly surprise!
Sarah joined Diamondport in October 2024 as our Jewellery Digital Assistant, working remotely from Tasmania. She’s a qualified gemmologist and NCJV jewellery valuer, and holds a Certificate IV in Visual Arts. She handles customer service, CRM management, appraisals, and the website—all while keeping Ash organised! She loves seeing new custom designs come to life, and her favourite gemstone? Sapphires, because they are hard enough for daily wear, and there are so many different colours available.
Sean joined Diamondport in December 2024 and brings years of fine jewellery experience. He holds a Bachelor’s in Fine Art (Jewellery & Small Objects) and honed his craft through the prestigious JamFactory Associate Program in Adelaide. As a bench jeweller, he specialises in crafting custom engagement and wedding rings, along with jewellery restoration and setting.
His favourite gemstone? Sapphires—valued for their incredible range of colours and workability. Having even mined his own, he loves the elegance of a simple emerald-cut sapphire solitaire, especially set in platinum.
Gold and diamonds were not on the radar of 19-year-old Ipswich native Ashley Portas, but after taking over a courier run for diamond merchants in the Brisbane CBD, he was thrown into the fascinating world of gemstones.
Many of Ashley’s clients were Australia’s biggest and best diamond wholesalers, gem merchants and jewellery manufacturers.
Fast forward to 2010 and many would go on to become his major suppliers at Diamondport Jewellers as he pursued his dream to build a successful and trusted business that creates beautiful bespoke jewellery.
