Halo Engagement Rings – The Ultimate Bang For Your Buck!

Extra sparkle? Just add a diamond halo

Halo engagement rings are an enduring favorite, and it’s not hard to see why. Diamonds bling up anything, it’s an irrefutable fact. Adding a halo of diamonds to your engagement ring, earrings or pendant gives an extravagant look on a smaller budget.

Halo engagement rings give a bigger look for a smaller budget. It’s easy to spend $13,000 on a 1 carat solitaire ring, but you can achieve a similar look with significantly less dosh by choosing a smaller centre stone and adding a surrounding halo of diamonds. Read on for approximate prices.

Halo engagement rings in every design, shape and colour

A round brilliant diamond surrounded by a glittering halo is what usually springs to mind, but there’s so many excellent options for your halo engagement ring.

Sarah’s pear halo engagement ring

My beautiful wife Sarah has an incredible pear diamond surrounded by a dainty diamond halo. She wears it with a diamond band and it’s spectacular – a very indulgent style.

Princess and Cushion Cut Diamond Halo Rings

Princess (square) cut and cushion (square with corners cut off) diamonds look sensational with a diamond halo. Sensationally bling-tastic, girls love them and they’re not going out of fashion any time soon.

Diamonds in the band

What’s better than diamonds surrounded by diamonds? More diamonds in the band, thanks. Enough said.

Add colour with pink diamonds

A lot of guys want pink diamonds, not realising how expensive they are. So, we add a pink diamond halo set in rose gold around a white central diamond with white gold claws.

Mellow Yellow

Yellow diamonds make a fabulous halo too. They’re not as rare as pinks, so a yellow diamond central stone surrounded by a white diamond halo is also within the realms of possibility! I recommend darker yellow diamonds set in white gold claws; it looks much better than yellow gold on yellow diamonds.

A sapphire with a white diamond halo is elegance personified. It’s long been a popular style, perhaps inspired by Princess Diana and Kate Middleton’s 12-carat sapphire engagement ring. Sapphires are significantly cheaper per carat than diamonds, so you too can pick a big one.

Opulent dress rings

I recently had the pleasure of creating this morganite cocktail ring with a diamond halo. Not limited to engagement rings, the diamond halo is gaining popularity in eternity rings too.

Halo dimensions; getting the ratios right

It’s a tricky one to explain, but some ratios look better than others.

I prefer the look of smaller, dainty diamonds in the halo for a large central stone. And if the center stone is smaller, say 0.5 carat, I’d go for bigger diamonds in the halo.

It might sound counterintuitive, so I’ll show you plenty of CAD designs during your consultation, so you can decide for yourself.

How much does a halo diamond engagement ring cost?

Generally speaking, the biggest cost is the centre stone, and diamonds get exponentially more expensive as they get bigger. We custom-design engagement rings at Diamondport, so if you’re after a halo ring, we’ll design it to suit your budget.

A guide to estimating the cost of your halo engagement ring

Here’s a rough guide to working out the cost of a diamond halo engagement ring.

A classic diamond halo starts at $3,500. Add to that the cost of a central diamond, which depends on size, to work out the total approximate cost.

1. Cost of a diamond halo, a classic diamond halo starts at $3,500

2. Cost of a central diamond varies according to the size of the diamond

  • 0.5 carat central diamond, approximately $2,500
  • 0.75 carat central diamond, approximately $5,000
  • 1 carat central diamond, approximately $10,500

1 + 2. Total cost: halo + central diamond

  • 0.5 carat central diamond with halo, approximately $6,000
  • 0.75 carat central diamond with halo, approximately $8,500
  • 1 carat central diamond with halo, approximately $14,000

A 0.5 carat diamond with a halo of 0.2 carat dimaonds has a diameter of 0.0 mm and costs approximately $6,000. It’ll actually look bigger than a 1 carat solitaire ring which can cost $13,000.

Diamond halo earrings

I love diamond stud earrings, they’re absolutely beautiful. But they need to be quite large to really look their best; 0.5 carat plus, which can get pricey.

A 0.2 carat diamond stud earrings would set you back about $1,500 and they have a diameter of about 3.8mm across. Adding a halo of 0.02 carat diamonds will more than double the diameter, and cost around $2,250 total. The earrings will look much bigger, more than double the size, just by adding the halo and a small increase in price.
