Learn how to protect and preserve your favorite pieces with simple care tips.
Thank you for choosing Diamondport for your special piece. Fine jewellery is designed to be worn and loved, but like all precious things, it requires care and regular maintenance. This guide is designed to help you understand how to look after your jewellery and to ensure
you have a clear understanding of its nature, limitations, and ongoing care so it lasts for a lifetime
Precious metals and gemstones are durable, but they are not indestructible. Everyday wear, chemicals, and lifestyle activities all contribute to gradual wear and tear over time. Understanding this will help protect your jewellery and keep it looking its best for years to come.
The Mohs scale measures hardness, not toughness on an exponential scale of 1 to 10. This is measured in how resistant materials are to scratching
Some gemstones require extra care and are better suited to occasional wear such as; emerald, aquamarine, morganite, heliodor, pearls and opals. These stones are more vulnerable to impact, abrasion, heat, chemicals, and dehydration due to their porous and / or included crystal structure.
Please speak with us if you would like personalised advice for these pieces.
We recommend removing jewellery during:
Avoid exposure to chemicals, heat, and sudden temperature changes. Chlorine and bleach can, and will make your gold brittle over time, which is not repairable
Your gemstones can appear dull or cloudy when dirty, especially topaz, morganite or aquamarine. For easy bi-weekly cleaning at home, use warm water and a mild dishwashing liquid. Using a soft toothbrush, work your way around the ring with the solution. Rinse well and pat dry with a lint-free cloth
Avoid at-home ultrasonic cleaners unless advised by Diamondport,
especially for sensitive gemstones
Your ring finish may change over time. This is considered normal wear and all of these finishes can be redone during an annual service.
